The National Weather Service recently completed a rainfall intensity study called Atlas-14.  This study was done to update historic rainfall data last collected in 1994.  You can go online to to learn about new interim floodplain information, including access to area maps.  This is preliminary information but, basically, it changes what used to be considered a 500-year floodplain to now a 100-year floodplain.  This translates to a change of approximately a 3-inch increase in rainfall intensity within a 24-hour period.
